Meet Plazmatick

Marko Mihalinec aka Plazmatick is a music producer, graphic designer, and writer born in 1979. The beginnings of his active creative work date back to the nineties. Even then, he ran Nuclear Age Nomadz – a progressive youth organization focused on new media and web activism. Plazmatick’s musical journey began in 1996 when he installed the first software on an old PC (486) and started composing sounds. More ambient drum n ‘bass as well as electronic experiments full of movie samples were the main guiding lines in Plazmatick’s beginnings. Later influenced by trip-hop greats Tricky or Photek and modern bands like Deftones, Tool, and Perfect Circle he expanded his range of musical influences.

With the transition to the new millennium, he is active through EGOBOO.bits label, which also serves as a digital platform and a production team that, among other things, dealt with the development of free software, sound production, and media theory. The music was completely controlled by the participating members and the format (CD) itself was usually designed, reproduced, and distributed by the performers themselves. He released three music albums through the EGOBOO.bits label, which operated within the Multimedia Institute in Zagreb. It is interesting to note that these are the only releases that regularly received high marks (10/10) in the then pop culture magazine Nomad. Another very interesting fact is that his performance in 2000. in the Zagreb hall called S.K.U.C. was among the first in this area to be accompanied by the author’s visual projections, i.e. VJ-ing. He is the author of music for film, theater, and television – ‘Ljubav je ljubav’ campaign, which is banned on HRT (Croatian National Television), ‘Nasilje ostavlja tragove’ campaign, and the TV series ‘Kad zvoni?’ and music for the documentary ‘Bolesno’ (2015).

He is also a writer and has published three books: ‘Žuti titl – Drugačija filmska enciklopedija’, ‘Povratak žutog titla – Ukoričeni filmski zabavnik’ and ‘Kriza – hrvatski horor’. As a writer, he is engaged in the development and creation of television and film projects, he wrote the script for the feature film ‘Zaokruži me!’, Whose development was co-financed by HAVC and is the creator of the TV series ‘Ravnica’. He was one of the first LoMo global ambassadors to the Republic of Croatia. In the book Dizajniranje novih medija / Dizajn i novi mediji by dr. sc. Ivica Mitrović, Mihalinec is listed as a pioneer of new media for leading and working in the N.A.N. association. He’s also the administrator and curator of the YouTube channel Adam Curtis documentary.

This year, his first releases for PDV Records are also expected. More news on this will be available in the coming months. In the meantime, enjoy his fresh video for the song aptly titled Ostani doma (Stay Home).
