“The story of KaliKamo can be wrapped up in one orbit around the sun. A chance meeting at the Ninja Gathering festival on the Mrežnica River (a huge thanks to organizer Julian for bringing us together!) at a time when one world was collapsing (Kali Fat Dub) and another was transforming (KudiKamo?) resulted in a wonderful camaraderie and ‘Jedinstvo’ as the fruit of that immaculate conception. What followed were a few messages, the Fališ festival in Šibenik (Azimut), Ambassador, Kotač (RIP Topsy – I already miss your voice, beard, conversations, friendship), rehearsals, Ljubav i Bes, Attack, CeZam space in Čakovec, Zabok (RIP Frgec – thank you for the love and drinks you showered us with), the first recording session, Oksid, rehearsals, TWG Pula, rehearsals, Iluzije slobode, rehearsals, the second recording session, TUŠ, Rojc, SAWA, ETC, BLAST, ZASK benefit, and Ekoslavija… A dose of dub, then punk chaos… Thank you all for the opportunity and the trust you’ve given us. The forest remembers.”
KaliKamo are Croatian four-piece band featuring Roko Margeta (KudiKamo?, Kosan, Dunja Knebl, Gnomad) on keyboards, analog synths, tar, and loopers; Đuro Dobranić (KudiKamo?, Je Veux) on drums; Dino Mudrić handling equipment, effects, and sound processing; and Chakka Svraka (BarabaDUB Sound System, Kali Fat Dub) on vocals. They skillfully navigate sound system culture, low-frequency bass, the distorted energy of the French dub school, extravagant, spacey, and trancy synth flourishes, precise, metronomic drumming, expert looping techniques, melodic tar playing, effect-laden vocals, and megalomaniacal spoken-word segments.
